NGX Genetic Methylation Test & Report

NGX Genetic Methylation Test & Report

Methylation is a biochemical process that regulates gene activity by adding methyl groups to specific regions of DNA that can effectively turn genes “on” or “off”. It plays a crucial role in many bodily functions, such as DNA repair, detoxification, mood regulation, and immune response. Properly balanced methylation  supports healthy aging and helps prevent diseases like cancer, heart conditions, and neurological disorders. NGX's Genetic Methylation Test, provides insights into individual genetic factors that influence methylation so that you can change your nutrition to protect yourself from genetic diseases and premature ageing, and maximise your health and longevity.

NGX uniquely takes this one step further my then providing ALL the vitamins, minerals and special supplements in a tasty morning nutrition shake that corrects for these potential dietary issues and protects you to maximise your healthspan and longevity. So whatever the outcome of your test, we have got you covered!

Unlock your body’s methylation potential by analysing key metabolic pathways (such as the Folate Cycle) and crucial genes (including COMT, MTR, MTHFR, and more).

Our actionable Methylation Report provides a deeper understanding of your body, enabling you to optimise your health effectively and be fit for life.

NGX also combines this with a full nutrigenetic analysis of how well your body uses different vitamins and minerals so that your are not deficient – this will be very different from the RDA/NRIs you are used to seeing that are designed around what an average person needs to be okay that day. Our analysis tells you what you specifically need to stay at your best every day!

NGX then offers you the option to not only know your problems from your reports but then solve them by having your very own genetically personalised breakfast shake – unique to you and unique to NGX! We do this as part of specially discounted Starter Pack for you to get you on the road to being Fit for Life – just like the Olympic Athletes using our product!

Methylation Test Report
A genetic strength and weaknesses report is provided with personalised nutrition and lifestyle recommendations to help you optimise your methylation pathways.

Homocysteine Buildup
This test includes the MTHFR, MTRR, MTR, MTHFD1, and CBS genes, each of which plays an important role in the methylation cycle. This cycle is responsible for converting homocysteine into methionine or glutathione with the aid of folate, vitamin B12, and B6. Mutations within methylation genes may reduce the functionality of the enzymes produced, impacting how well they can do their job. These key genes in the methylation pathway work to break down homocysteine, an inflammatory compound that is normally only present in the blood in very small amounts. Homocysteine buildup in the bloodstream is like clogging a pipe in a plumbing system; it obstructs normal flow and increases inflammation, potentially leading to cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, digestive issues, and complications during pregnancy. Understanding these genetic variations can offer valuable insights into individual health risks, empowering informed decisions for better health management.

Active Folate Deficiency
This test includes the MTHFR, MTHFD1, MTR and MTRR genes to determine how variations in your genetics may influence your folate intake needs. Folate is a B vitamin that is essential for DNA synthesis and methylation. Folate deficiency disrupts these processes, leading to impaired cell division and increased levels of homocysteine. This can result in neural tube defects in newborns, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and potential cognitive impairments. Understanding these genetic variations can offer valuable insights into individual health risks, empowering informed decisions for better health management.

Cognitive Performance & Mental Wellbeing
This test focuses on two important genes linked to how our brain functions and our overall mental well-being, called COMT and PEMT. The COMT gene affects how our brain breaks down a chemical called dopamine, which plays a big role in how we feel happy and motivated. Think of dopamine as the brain's 'feel-good' messenger, involved in memory, motivation, and pleasure. Changes in how our body handles dopamine can impact things like problem-solving skills, memory, and coordination. If your body breaks down dopamine efficiently, you might find you're sharper in these areas. But if there are mutations in COMT, it can affect your mood and how well your brain works. The PEMT gene helps make something called phosphatidylcholine, which is important for building cell membranes in our body and for brain function. Changes in this gene can affect how well it makes phosphatidylcholine, which in turn can affect how well your liver and brain work. It might also influence your sleep and make you more prone to certain health issues like fatty liver disease and heart problems. Understanding these genetic differences can give us valuable clues about our brain health and overall well-being. This knowledge helps us make better decisions about how to take care of our health.

Gut Health
This test focuses on mutations in the MTR gene, which can provide insights into your gut health, particularly concerning inflammatory bowel conditions and their associated symptoms. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses a range of inflammatory conditions affecting the colon and small intestine, such as Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). These conditions often lead to symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhoea. Some research has shown that carrying two variants in the MTR gene can lead to a 48% higher risk for IBD compared to the standard genetic makeup. Understanding these genetic variations can provide valuable insights into your individual risk factors for IBD and related symptoms.

Genetic Variations of Note
Research indicates that specific genetic variations are associated with a higher likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease, hemochromatosis, or celiac disease. These conditions are prevalent among individuals with certain genotypes, highlighting the importance of understanding genetic predispositions in disease susceptibility.

Understanding Methylation

Methylation is a vital process in your body where small chemical groups, called methyl groups, are added to DNA and other molecules. This process acts like a switch, turning genes on or off, and plays a key role in many essential functions that support overall health and wellbeing.

Key Functions of Methylation

  1. Gene Regulation
Methylation helps regulate which genes are active and which are not, much like a light switch. For instance, the MTHFR gene is involved in using vitamins like B12 and folate to support this process, which is crucial for maintaining healthy cell function and development.
  2. DNA Repair and Protection
Proper methylation is essential for repairing and protecting DNA from damage. This is important for preventing mutations that could lead to diseases like cancer. By maintaining the integrity of your DNA, methylation supports healthy aging and longevity.
  3. Detoxification
Methylation helps the body process and eliminate toxins. For example, the GSTP1 gene supports the detoxification of harmful substances, including heavy metals and pollutants. This function is critical for protecting cells from damage and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
  4. Mood and Brain Function
Methylation also influences brain health by managing levels of brain chemicals that affect mood and stress. The COMT gene plays a role in breaking down neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, which is essential for mood regulation and cognitive function. Issues with methylation in this area can impact mental health and contribute to conditions like depression and anxiety.
  5. Immune System Support
By regulating the expression of certain genes, methylation helps maintain a balanced immune response. Proper methylation ensures that the immune system can effectively fight infections and reduce inflammation, which is important for preventing autoimmune diseases.
  6. Energy Production
Methylation is also involved in converting food into energy. It plays a role in the metabolism of certain nutrients, ensuring that your body has enough energy for daily activities and vital functions.

The Impact of Methylation on Longevity and Disease Prevention

When methylation functions correctly, it supports a wide range of essential processes that contribute to overall health, longevity, and disease prevention. However, problems with methylation can increase the risk of several health conditions, including heart disease, certain cancers, neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and mood disorders. Understanding and optimizing your methylation process can help you maintain better health and improve your quality of life over time.
